ABSTRACT

This case study conducted at the Joseph Ghislain Neuropsychiatric Center in Lubumbashi evaluates the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the management of a patient presenting with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following sexual violence. The main objective is to present the CBT approach, to illustrate the characteristic symptoms of PTSD through a concrete case, and to guide the patient towards awareness of her illness in order to restore her psychosocial balance. The methodology adopted is based on the clinical method (semi-structured interview), supplemented by clinical observation, the PTSD assessment scale, as well as functional and descriptive analyses. The therapeutic intervention, organized into ten sessions, made it possible to identify the triggers of the trauma, provide psychosocial support, and gradually reduce the symptoms. The results show a notable improvement in the patient's condition, which is reflected by a decrease in the clinical manifestations of PTSD and a strengthening of her coping abilities. The study confirms the effectiveness of CBT in the management of PTSD and emphasizes the importance of structured psychological support to promote social reintegration and the well-being of victims.
